Though Middle-earth is succumbing to the shadow from both Angmar and Mordor, there are many who resist it and are willing to do whatever it takes to repel the spreading darkness. Such individuals are not players, but legendary characters from the epic tale, including Elrond, Gandalf and Aragon. Below are details of such heroes that players will be able to interactive with through their travels in the Lord of the Rings Online. Elrond Elrond is a wisened half-elven whose age exceeds 3000 years and was a part of Sauron's last defeat in time long past. He is seen as an adivsor and healer to the free people of Middle-earth and resides in the most western elven refuge that remains, Rivendell. Seated at the foot of the Misty Mountains, the grand elven home - known to many as the 'Last Homely House' - the refuge is open to any who walk the path of light; whether they seek aid or are willing to expend every resource they possess to change the fate of Middle-earth. Much like in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Elrond's house will be open to all the free people who declare their good intentions. Perhaps even Elrond himself will require players aid to push the forces of darkness back? Regardless, in Rivendell Elrond will wait for any able-bodied adventurers. Gandalf Known by many names in lands far off, Gandalf the Grey is a pivotal figure in the War of the Ring. In the years preceding the greatest trial of the third age, Gandalf (with the help of dwarves) convinced the young Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, to take up the life of a burglar to help Thorin Oakenshield reclaim his rightful treasure. It is during this adventure that Bilbo discovered the One Ring - the token that the War of the Ring concerned with - and that which occupies Gandalf's primary attention. As the story does go, Gandalf lends his strength and knowledge to Frodo Baggins, but the Grey Pilgrim does offer his help to all the free people. It is not known where we will find the great wizard, but surely he won't lack good advice or troublesome tasks for those that do find him. Like all of his tasks and purposes, however, none will be in vain; perhaps the fate of Middle-earth will ride on it! Nevertheless, he will be there to aid every player and only a fool would pass on his counsel or requests.
